I did, I did, I really made a sandpit! The sun was shining, the tuff tray was being used for paints and yet we wanted to make sand castles and feel those grains run through our little, and not so little, fingers. So, during nap time (thank goodness for nap time!) I had a rummage in the shed and found an old book case, it was easy enough to take out all the shelves (no tools required!) and so to one side they went, be gone you shelves, there is no place for you in my sandpit! I then got out my handy oil cloth, popped it in, making sure to keep plenty to the side to create a lid, and plop went the sand on top of that! Hey presto! A DIY sandpit! We had toddler minutes of fun and after we’d finished building and crushing our sand empire, oh how we have the power, I simply folded the cloth over the sand and used a heavy stone to keep it closed.
